Hand dryers for public restrooms reduce paper towel waste while offering your customers and employees a quick way to dry their hands. We offer high speed hand dryers from brands like Xlerator, World Dryer, Dyson and more.
Commercial Hand Dryers for Every Facility
Commercial hand dryers are available in several styles, performance levels, and mounting options. At Total Restroom, our collection includes hand dryers for public bathrooms in both surface-mounted and recessed configurations.
- Surface-Mounted: Typically easier to install and a practical choice for retrofit projects, since no wall cavity work is required.
- Recessed: Often selected for a cleaner built-in appearance and for ADA protrusion compliance in tighter restroom layouts. Under the ADA Standards, objects mounted with leading edges between 27" and 80" above the floor may not protrude more than 4" into a circulation path. Some slim surface-mount units meet that limit without recessing — the Dyson Airblade 9kJ, for example, is 4" deep — while deeper units need a recess kit to comply.
High-Speed vs. Conventional Performance
When comparing high-speed and conventional models, the biggest differences are dry time, energy use, and user experience.
- High-Speed: Designed to shear water off hands rather than evaporate it, typically drying in 8 to 12 seconds. The Excel Dryer XLERATOR is rated at 8 seconds, the World Dryer SMARTdri Plus at as little as 10 seconds, and the Dyson Airblade 9kJ at 10 seconds in Max mode or 12 seconds in Eco mode.
- Conventional: Warm-air dryers rely more on evaporation and generally run 30 seconds or longer. Excel Dryer puts conventional units in the 30-to-45-second range.
- A note on comparing dry times: manufacturers test to different residual-moisture thresholds, so cross-brand numbers are directional rather than exact. Dyson tests to 0.1g residual moisture under NSF P335; Excel tests to 0.25g under the UL Environment Product Category Rules. A stricter threshold produces a longer published time for the same real-world performance. If dry time is a decision factor on your project, call us and we'll walk through it.
Balancing Noise Levels and Aesthetics
Noise level is a critical factor for offices, healthcare settings, and upscale interiors. High-speed models are traditionally louder, but many newer units include adjustable speed and sound controls that let you trade a little dry time for a quieter restroom.
Published sound ratings are only comparable when measured the same way, and manufacturers don't always use the same distance. The World Dryer SMARTdri Plus is rated at 69 dBA measured at 2 meters in a semi-anechoic chamber. The Bobrick TerraDry is rated at 70 dB(A) measured at 1 meter. Because sound pressure drops roughly 6 dB each time the distance doubles, the two figures are closer than they look.
When noise matters on your project, ask for the measurement distance along with the decibel figure. Our team can pull the published test conditions for any dryer we carry.
