Dyson Airblade Voltage Guide: AB08 vs. AB12

When selecting or replacing a Dyson Airblade V, it is common to see two different model numbers that look identical: the AB08 and the AB12. It is important to understand that these machines are physically the same but are built for different electrical requirements.

What is the difference?

The only difference between these two models is their voltage rating:

  • AB12 (Low Voltage): This is the standard 110–120V model used in most North American commercial restrooms. Our part numbers C1977555 and C1977556 correspond to this standard voltage.
  • AB08 (High Voltage): This is the 208–240V version, typically required for industrial facilities, older buildings with 208V power, or international projects.

Dyson Model Evolution

As Dyson updated the Airblade V to be quieter and more efficient, they transitioned from the "AB" naming system to the current "HU" (Hands Under) series:

  • HU02-LV (Low Voltage): Directly replaced the AB12.
  • HU02-HV (High Voltage): Directly replaced the AB08.

Both generations are physically identical in size and are available in the same finishes: White and Sprayed Nickel.

⚠️ CRITICAL VOLTAGE WARNING Before purchasing, please verify your building's electrical supply. Installing a 110–120V unit (AB12 / HU02-LV) into a 240V circuit will cause immediate and irreversible damage to the motor. Always ensure your unit's voltage matches your facility's wiring to avoid installation failure.

Which one do I need?

If you are replacing an existing unit labeled AB08, you must order a High Voltage (HV) replacement. If your current unit is labeled AB12, our standard 110–120V models (C1977555 / C1977556) are the correct current-generation replacements for your facility.
