Drinking fountains in healthcare, senior-living, education, and other public facilities may specify a dedicated support bar so users who are unsteady on their feet can brace themselves while they drink. The Bobrick 819298 is a specialty drinking fountain grab bar built for that application — a 1-1/2" (38mm) type-304 stainless steel tube that anchors to both the wall and the floor to provide stable support at the fountain. It features satin-finish stainless steel construction, concealed mounting flanges, snap-on flange covers, and heliarc-welded joints. As a Bobrick Premier Partner, Total Restroom stocks the 819298 with a Low Price Guarantee.

Key Features

Wall-and-floor concealed mounting
Unlike a standard wall-only grab bar, the 819298 anchors at both the wall and the floor to provide rigid support at a drinking fountain. Concealed 1/8" type-304 stainless steel mounting flanges include two screw holes each for attachment to the wall and floor.

1-1/2" type-304 stainless steel tube
The 38mm outside diameter provides a full, secure grip and falls within ADA grab bar diameter requirements for circular grab bars. Type-304 stainless steel with a satin finish resists corrosion and stands up to daily commercial restroom use and cleaning.

One-piece heliarc-welded structure
The bar ends pass through the mounting flanges and are heliarc welded to form one structural unit, with no bolt-on joints to loosen over time. This construction helps the bar support loads in excess of 250 lbs (113 kg) when installed into proper backing or approved anchoring.

Snap-on flange covers
Satin stainless steel covers, 3-1/4" in diameter, snap over each mounting flange to conceal the mounting screws, leaving a clean finished appearance with no exposed fasteners.

ADAAG structural strength
When installed into adequate backing or approved anchors, the 819298 complies with barrier-free accessibility guidelines, including ADAAG in the U.S., for structural strength.

Which Version Is Right for You?

The 819298 is Bobrick's purpose-built grab bar for drinking fountains. It mounts wall-to-floor specifically to support users at a fountain, which a standard straight wall-mounted grab bar is not designed to do. A few points to confirm before ordering:

Diameter: This model has a 1-1/2" (38mm) outside diameter. ADA allows circular grab bars from 1-1/4" to 2" outside diameter, so confirm the required diameter against your project specifications.

Fountain support vs. stall/shower bars: If you need grab bars inside a toilet compartment or transfer shower, look to Bobrick's straight grab bar series, such as the B-6806 in 1-1/2" diameter or the B-5806 in 1-1/4" diameter. Those bars are wall-mounted and used for toilet and shower accessibility layouts.

How Many Do You Need?

Plan one 819298 per drinking fountain that requires accessible support. Because the bar has two flanges — one at the wall and one at the floor — you'll need two mounting kits or fasteners per bar, one for each flange:

  • Mounting kit 252-30 — three #14 × 2-1/2" type-304 stainless steel screws per flange (for installs with backing)
  • WingIt fastener 251-4 — for installs without in-wall backing (minimum 5/8" painted or tiled drywall)
  • Anchors 2583 / 2586 — sized to your panel thickness

Order the anchoring hardware that matches your wall and floor conditions; it is not included with the bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Bobrick 819298 ADA compliant?
A: It complies with barrier-free accessibility guidelines, including ADAAG in the U.S., for structural strength. When properly anchored into adequate wall and floor backing, it supports loads in excess of 250 lbs (113 kg). Final compliance depends on correct product selection, placement, and installation for the specific project.

Q: How does the 819298 mount?
A: It fastens to both the wall and the floor using concealed 1/8" type-304 stainless steel mounting flanges with two screw holes each. Satin stainless steel covers snap over the flanges to hide the screws. Provide backing or approved anchors as required for the wall and floor condition.

Q: Are mounting screws included?
A: No. Concealed anchor devices and mounting screws are not included with Bobrick grab bars and must be specified separately. Bobrick mounting kit 252-30 includes three #14 × 2-1/2" type-304 stainless steel screws; one mounting kit is required for each flange. Bobrick WingIt fastener 251-4 is another fastening option; one fastener is required for each flange.

Q: What's the difference between this and a standard grab bar?
A: The 819298 is a specialty drinking fountain grab bar that mounts from wall to floor to support users at a drinking fountain. Standard straight bars, such as the Bobrick B-6806 and B-5806, mount to the wall only and are commonly used inside toilet compartments and showers.
