Which Bobrick Key Do I Need? 24-17 BobKey vs. CAT-74 (330-43)
Bobrick uses two service keys across its washroom accessory line. Ordering the wrong one is the #1 reason a key replacement order fails to solve the problem. Here's how to tell them apart:
| If your dispenser is… | You need… |
|---|---|
| A surface-mounted Bobrick liquid soap dispenser with a hinged, locked filler-top (e.g., B-2111, B-2112, B-818615) | 24-17 BobKey (this page) |
| A countertop / lavatory-mounted Bobrick soap dispenser with concealed locking spout (e.g., B-822, B-8226, B-824) | 24-17 BobKey (this page) |
| A surface-mounted or recessed Bobrick toilet tissue dispenser with a theft-resistant plastic spindle | 24-17 BobKey (this page) |
| A Bobrick dispenser, partition unit, or combination cabinet with a visible front tumbler lock on the door | CAT-74 Key (330-43) |
| A Bobrick combination unit with both a tumbler-lock door and a theft-resistant tissue spindle inside (e.g., B-3094) | Both keys — CAT-74 opens the door, 24-17 services the spindle |

How To Use The Bobrick 24-17 BobKey
To open a Bobrick soap dispenser for refilling:
- Insert the tip of the BobKey into the opening of the concealed locking mechanism at the top of the dispenser (or in the spout assembly on countertop models).
- Disengage the lock and lift or rotate the filler-top open.
- Fill the unit with commercially marketed bulk liquid hand soap (do not use foam soap in liquid models or vice versa), then rotate or press the lid closed until it locks.
To service a Bobrick toilet tissue spindle:
- Open the dispenser cabinet (use the CAT-74 key on units with tumbler locks; some surface-mounted units open directly).
- Insert the BobKey into the spindle's release slot to disengage the concealed locking pin.
- Remove or reload the spindle as needed, then reinsert and lock the spindle back into place.
Need The Door Key Too?
Most Bobrick recessed and combination units (such as the B-3094 toilet tissue / waste disposal unit, recessed seat-cover dispensers, and most paper towel cabinets) have a separate tumbler-lock door that requires the Bobrick CAT-74 Key (P/N 330-43). Maintenance teams typically keep both keys on the service ring — order them together to avoid a second trip back to the supply closet.
For Maintenance Teams & Multi-Site Facilities
BobKeys are easy to lose and easy to need. Facility managers commonly order 5–25 keys at a time so every member of the janitorial team — and every backup ring — has one. Total Restroom is a Bobrick Premier Partner with our Low Price Guarantee on Bobrick parts, 48-Hour QuickShip on stocked items, and Net 30 terms available through Credit Key. Frequently Asked Questions
What Is The Bobrick 24-17 BobKey Used For?
The 24-17 BobKey is Bobrick's official service key for refilling select Bobrick liquid and foam soap dispensers and for servicing theft-resistant toilet tissue spindles. Bobrick identifies part number 24-17 as the BobKey used to refill soap dispensers and toilet tissue dispensers.
Is The Bobrick 24-17 BobKey The Same As The CAT-74 / 330-43 Key?
No. The 24-17 BobKey and the CAT-74 (Bobrick P/N 330-43) are two different keys. Bobrick states that most Bobrick and GAMCO keyed accessories use the CAT-74 tumbler-lock door key, while the 24-17 BobKey opens concealed locking mechanisms on soap dispensers and services theft-resistant tissue spindles.
My Recessed Bobrick Dispenser Has A Key-Operated Door — Will The 24-17 BobKey Open It?
No. Recessed Bobrick units with a tumbler-lock door (combination seat-cover / napkin-disposal / toilet tissue units, recessed paper towel cabinets, etc.) use the CAT-74 (330-43) to open the cabinet door. The 24-17 BobKey is then used inside the unit to service the theft-resistant toilet tissue spindle. If your job covers both, order both keys.
Does The 24-17 BobKey Work On Bobrick Foam Soap Dispensers?
Yes. The 24-17 BobKey is referenced in Bobrick installation documentation for the B-823 series foam dispensing assemblies and related models, including the B-8221 and B-82216 configurations. Compatibility extends to the concealed locking mechanism used across the B-822 / B-8226 / B-818615 / B-824 family.
Is The 24-17 BobKey The Same As The Bobrick 822-25 BobKey?
No. Bobrick produces more than one BobKey variant for different theft-resistant spindle configurations. The 822-25 is used with certain locking theft-resistant spindle assemblies and is not interchangeable with the 24-17. If your spindle does not release with a 24-17, confirm the spindle part number against Bobrick's service and parts manual before ordering.
Does A New Bobrick Dispenser Come With A BobKey?
Yes. Bobrick states that a BobKey is included with soap vessels and theft-resistant spindles. The 24-17 BobKey on this page is typically ordered as a replacement when the original is lost or damaged, or to supply additional keys to maintenance and janitorial staff.
My Soap Dispenser Lid Won't Open Even With The Key — What Now?
First confirm you have the correct key (24-17, not CAT-74). If the key is correct but the lid won't disengage, the concealed locking mechanism or hinge may be jammed with dried soap residue or corroded. Clean around the lock with a soft cloth and warm water, then re-attempt. If the mechanism remains stuck, the locking assembly may need replacement — call our team and we'll help identify the right repair part.
How Many BobKeys Should I Order?
Most maintenance teams keep at least one BobKey per service ring plus a backup, so 3–5 keys is typical for a small facility and 10–25 is common for multi-building campuses, schools, and hospitality properties. They're inexpensive, easy to misplace, and a missing key can stall a refill cycle — buying spares is cheap insurance.
Is This A Genuine Bobrick Replacement Part?
Yes. Total Restroom is a Bobrick Premier Partner. The 24-17 BobKey on this page is the genuine Bobrick replacement part as referenced in Bobrick Customer Service Document CSD-1 (Locks & Keys).
