Which soap dispenser do you need?
Four choices narrow it down: the soap, how it dispenses, where it mounts, and how it is refilled.
Liquid or Foam
Liquid dispensers pump liquid soap or gel. Foam dispensers need foam soap. They are not interchangeable, so match the dispenser to your soap.
Touch-Free or Manual
Sensor models dispense when hands are under the spout and run on batteries or AC power, depending on the model. Manual models need no power.
Wall, Counter or Recessed
Wall-mounted units go on the wall surface. Counter-mounted units go through the countertop with the soap below. Recessed units sit inside the wall.
Bulk, Top-Fill or Multi-Feed
Bulk dispensers refill from a jug. Top-fill models refill from above the counter. Multi-feed systems run several dispensers from one tank under the counter.
ADA tips for soap dispensers
Under the 2010 ADA Standards, operable parts must be usable with one hand, with no tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist, and with no more than 5 lbf (22.2 N) of force (§309.4). They must also be within reach (§308): no higher than 48" (1220 mm) and no lower than 15" (380 mm) above the floor for an unobstructed reach.
Mounting height and placement are set at installation, so plan where the dispenser will go before you order.
Soap Dispenser FAQ
Can I put foam soap in a liquid soap dispenser?
No. Foam dispensers mix soap with air to make foam and need foam soap; liquid dispensers pump liquid soap or gel. Match the dispenser to the soap you buy, and check the product page for any soap the maker specifies.
What is the difference between bulk and cartridge dispensers?
A bulk dispenser has a refillable reservoir you fill from a jug with any compatible soap. A cartridge dispenser takes a sealed refill made for that model, which is quick to change but ties you to that refill.
Do touch-free soap dispensers need power?
Yes. Sensor dispensers run on batteries, an AC adapter or hardwired power, depending on the model. The product page and tech data sheet list the power options for each dispenser.
What is a multi-feed soap system?
A multi-feed system connects several counter-mounted dispensers to one large tank under the counter, so a long vanity with many sinks is refilled in one place.
What do the ADA Standards say about soap dispensers?
Operable parts must work with one hand, without tight grasping, pinching or twisting, using no more than 5 lbf of force (§309.4), and be within the reach ranges of §308. Placement is set at installation, so plan it before ordering.
