At 12", this is a supplemental bar — it goes where a full-length bar won't fit, or alongside one you already have. ADA requires a 42" side-wall bar and 36" rear-wall bar for the main stall positions, so this isn't a replacement for those.
The peened finish is the reason to pick this over the smooth 8320-001120: the texture grips better when hands are wet or soapy, which is why it's specified for showers and locker rooms.
