ADA & CODE COMPLIANCE
Portable restroom compliance is driven by three overlapping requirements: ADA accessibility, OSHA sanitation (1926.51), and for California, Title 24 accessibility.
ADA: Where portable units are clustered, at least 5% at each cluster must be accessible (2010 Standards §213.2). Construction sites used only by construction crews are exempt. Alternative-ADA models (e.g., Liberty) are NOT a substitute for full ADA compliance.
OSHA 1926.51: One toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then one toilet seat and one urinal per 40 (per 50 above 200 workers). OSHA sets no service interval, but unsanitary units don't count toward the minimum.
Title 24 (California): California's accessibility code has stricter requirements than federal ADA in several areas — including a minimum of one accessible unit per cluster. The Satellite Freedom is built to meet ADA and Title 24; spec the 35-gallon tank, as the 68-gallon version is non-ADA.
